Tasting: Intense ruby red; fruity and spicy on the nose; dry and smooth on the palate. Soft tannins. Good structure and persistence. Goes well with: Cold cuts and cheese. Dark chocolate. Serve: room temperature

Story: The members of this small winemaking co-operative in the tiny hamlet of Rimedio have championed the rare and ancient Sardinian red grape Nieddera, working with other growers in the Tirso Valley to rescue it from extinction. Still only around 90h exist globally, and mostly here in the Tirso Valley.

The wine’s label references the 3,000 year old ‘Giants of Mont’e Prama’, huge mystical stone statues with mesmeric discs for eyes that were uncovered in the local area, linking this grape with the island’s unique history and identity.   

 Fermenting on the skins and extended time in used barrels and then concrete before maturing in the bottle, creates a dry, well-structured wine that leaves a memory in the mouth long after the first sip.As with all wines from this cantina, only natural organic fertiliser is applied in the vineyard and weed control is solely mechanical.
